Questions & answers
The questions homeowners actually ask.
The questions homeowners actually ask us, in the order they tend to ask them — from "is this a job for you?" through structure and planning to "what's it like living with the work?"
Stage
Before you decide
What kind of work do you take on?
Bespoke extensions (single and multi-storey), full property renovations — including kitchens with structural bearing-wall removal, bathrooms, ground floors and whole-apartment refurbishments — and conversions of lofts, garages, annexes and basements. We also lay tiled patios and water features. It's all domestic building work across Ascot and East Berkshire.
Are you accredited?
Buckhurst Construction Ltd is a member of the Federation of Master Builders, the UK's largest trade body for the construction industry, and we're registered on Checkatrade. We're a registered company — Companies House number 14328847 — based at West Lodge, Buckhurst Lane, Ascot.
Who will actually be running my job?
William Hulbert, the founder and director, runs every project on site with his team. As one review put it, William is "very professional, and easy to deal with throughout," and "nothing is ever too difficult or impossible for Will." You deal with the person doing the work.

Getting a quote
Do you charge for a first visit?
No — William will come out to see the property, talk through what you're picturing, and give an honest view of what's realistic, at no charge. A written quote setting out the work follows from there.
How do you handle a big project like an extension?
As one job, start to finish, with William running it on site. Our clients single out the communication: "every day throughout this journey I was kept updated with plans etc and time frames on when it would be finished." On a large build, knowing where things stand is half the battle.
Stage
Structure & planning
Can you remove a load-bearing wall to open up a kitchen?
Yes — it's work we do regularly. One client had us "remodel our kitchen including removing a bearing wall," and described the whole process as "seamless." We size and install the beam or steel, transfer the load safely, and make good so cleanly you'd never know the wall was there.
Do extensions and loft conversions need planning permission or building regs?
It depends on the project — some work falls under permitted development, while larger extensions and most conversions need planning and/or building control sign-off. At the first visit we'll tell you honestly what your project is likely to involve, and where drawings or structural calculations are needed, before you commit.
Stage
During the work
Will I know what's happening as the build runs?
Yes — it's the thing our reviews mention most. You're kept updated on plans, progress and timeframes throughout, so a big project never feels like a black box. William is hands-on and on site, which keeps both the communication and the standard consistent.
How do you finish a job?
We walk the completed work with you, put right anything on the snag list, and don't call it done until it's done. The words our clients reach for are "immaculate," "every detail finished to an exceptionally high standard," and "attention to detail second to none."

Areas & availability
Which areas do you cover?
Ascot, Sunninghill, Sunningdale and the surrounding villages, out to Windsor, Bracknell, Virginia Water, Winkfield and Maidenhead, and across the Surrey border toward Egham, Englefield Green and Bagshot. If you're nearby and not listed, just ask.
When are you contactable?
